Jamia Millia Islamia was founded in 1920 and became a central university through an Act of Parliament in 1988. Its 254-acre campus in Jamia Nagar hosts faculties of engineering, law, medicine, architecture, humanities and social sciences. The Faculty of Engineering and Technology offers B.Tech in CSE, ECE, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Data Science, and is ranked 24th in engineering by NIRF 2025. Regular-seat B.Tech tuition is approximately ₹78,100 for the entire four-year degree, which is the lowest of any ranked engineering programme in India. Self-financed seats cost around ₹6.13 lakh, still exceptional value for a central-university degree in Delhi.

NIRF 2026 data reports a median of 13.20 LPA for 4-year UG programmes, with 299 of 356 B.Tech students placed in 2025. The highest CSE offers were 51 LPA in 2025 (Microsoft) and 18 LPA in 2026 (Optum). Core recruiters include Samsung, Qualcomm, Intel and Siemens.

B.Tech admission is based on JEE Main score followed by JMI's own counselling and seat allotment process. Only a limited number of heavily subsidised regular seats exist; most B.Tech seats are self-financed. Other programmes use separate routes: CUET UG for most undergraduate courses, JMI Entrance Exam for selected programmes, NEET for medicine, CLAT for law, and GATE/NIMCET/CAT for postgraduate entry.
